Wireslate uses two layers of roles: organization roles set someone's standing in the organization, and space or whiteboard roles set what they can actually do on specific boards.
Organization roles#
- Admin: can manage members, spaces, and whiteboards, but can't remove or change owners
- Member: belongs to the organization, but won't see any spaces until an admin adds them to one
- Guest: an external collaborator who only sees what you share with them
Space and whiteboard roles#
These decide what someone can do on a specific space or board:
- Editor: can edit the canvas and metrics
- Commenter: can view and leave comments, but not edit
- Viewer: read-only access
All three authenticated whiteboard roles can download an AI-ready Markdown export, including from a read-only canvas. Anonymous visitors on a public link can view the published snapshot but do not get the Markdown export action.
About guests#
- A guest can view and comment on anything you share with them
Where access can come from#
Someone's access to a whiteboard can come from three places, and the Share dialog's Access tab shows exactly which:
- A direct invite to the whiteboard
- Membership in the space the whiteboard lives in
- Their organization role (owners and admins can manage all boards)
Common questions#
Can a member see everything in the organization? No. Members only see the spaces an admin adds them to.
Who can share a whiteboard? The whiteboard's owner manages sharing and roles.
Do viewers on a public link need an account? No. Public links are open to anyone with the URL; see Public links.
